An oral health consultation at Acer Dental is far more than a standard check-up. Our clinicians take the time to conduct a thorough, systematic examination of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints, and soft tissues — giving you a complete picture of your dental health and a clear roadmap for any treatment you need.

We use digital X-rays to detect decay, bone loss, and other issues invisible to the naked eye, and all radiation exposure is kept to the minimum necessary. For new patients, a comprehensive series of records including photographs and a full periodontal assessment are taken to give us a baseline from which to monitor your health over time.

Whether you haven’t visited a dentist in years, are new to the area, or simply want a second opinion, our consultations are a no-pressure opportunity to get the honest, professional advice you need. We explain everything we find in plain language and prioritise your options by clinical need.

Why Choose Oral Health Consultations?

  • Digital X-rays detect hidden decay and bone loss not visible to the naked eye
  • Full soft tissue examination to screen for early signs of oral cancer
  • Periodontal assessment to check gum health and bone levels
  • Honest, clear treatment recommendations with no pressure to proceed
  • Personalised risk assessment covering diet, lifestyle, and dental habits
  • Complete clinical records for ongoing comparison at future visits

How It Works

  1. Medical History Review

We review your medical history, any medications, and discuss any concerns or symptoms you have. This helps us understand your overall health context and any relevant risk factors.

  2. Clinical Examination

A systematic examination of every tooth, your gum tissue, tongue, cheeks, throat, and jaw joints. We check for decay, erosion, wear, cracking, and any abnormalities in the soft tissues.

  3. Digital X-Rays (Where Needed)

We take the minimum necessary digital X-rays to check between teeth, below the gumline, and at the bone level. Digital X-rays use up to 90% less radiation than traditional film.

  4. Periodontal Assessment

We gently measure the depth of gum pockets around every tooth and check for bleeding, recession, or mobility — the key indicators of gum disease at different stages.

  5. Treatment Plan & Discussion

We explain everything we've found, prioritise any treatment by clinical need, and give you a written treatment plan with costs. You leave with a clear understanding of your dental health and what, if anything, needs addressing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in a consultation?

A full clinical examination of teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissues; digital X-rays where indicated; periodontal (gum) assessment; oral cancer screening; and a comprehensive written treatment plan with costs.

How often should I have a dental consultation?

For most adults, every 6 months is ideal. If you have a low risk of dental disease, once per year may be sufficient. We'll advise the right frequency for you based on your individual risk factors.

I haven't been to a dentist for years — will I be judged?

Absolutely not. We see patients regularly who are anxious about returning after a long gap. Our team is non-judgmental, and our goal is simply to help you understand where your mouth is now and make a plan to improve it. You're always in control.

How long does the consultation take?

A new patient consultation typically takes 45–60 minutes. Follow-up consultations are usually 30 minutes. We allow enough time to be thorough and to answer all your questions.
